OECD-Fondazione Giovanni Agnelli Workshop on the Measurement of Human Capital, Turin, 3-4 November 2008

The workshop aims at discussing suitable approaches for the comparative measurement of the aggregate value of human capital

The concept of “human capital” figures prominently in policy discussions in a variety of fields: as a source of economic growth and innovation, as one of the assets that need to be preserved to achieve sustainable development, and as an investment into future jobs and earnings for those people who face the greatest risks of poverty and exclusion. Yet, despite this central role in policy discussions, statistical measures fall short to what is needed to provide a comprehensive account of the level and distribution of human capital in our societies.

The workshop is organised jointly with the OECD Statistics Directorate. Its aim is to identify suitable approaches for the comparative measurement of the aggregate value of human capital and of how it is distributed in society, which could provide the basis for comparative work on this issue by the OECD.

The workshop will be held on 3 and 4 November 2008 in Turin, Italy. Participation is by invitation only.Should you require further information or have any queries regarding accommodation or logistics, please contact Cristina Bertini at segreteria@fga.it or on +39 011 650 0504.
